I organized the clean up at the Dunes and sent a letter to Mr. Michael Thomas - the head of the trails division there - 6 weeks ago asking him what he would like us to accomplish. I never heard back from him, nor did he show up on Saturday (but the two large trees I mentioned that were down on the trail were cut up and removed so I think he got the letter). Actually, no one else showed up either. The Dunes has been underwater since it opened in mid-March making only 1/2 of the trail system usable. That's the bad news. The good news is that there was very little clean up since there has been little use of the trail system. I spent a few hours cleaning up the glass where the trails come close to Route 12. There are a few trees down that horses can easily step over but we have to be federally certified to be able to use a chain saw at the Dunes. Fill is needed once again after the long bridge, limestone dust would be better than the black dirt they used last time but I don't know if that is allowed. Perhaps the bridge should be extended since this area is always wet.
